Running Your Own Business Get out From Behind the Screen.

Running Your Own Business Get out From Behind the Screen. I recently met with an aspiring business woman. She had done her homework, knew the market, understood the need, built the model, and was ready to dive in and help a needed problem in her industry; business cards and website to boot! The problem?   No clients. In todays world its easy to get everything going in terms of building a website, printing off some business cards and putting a name on letterhead. I think its harder, for some, to sell and take action before you know the outcome or have all the details figured out.   The details will come. My advice?   Make an action plan. Lean towards what is uncomfortable because thats the largest part of the work is at the beginning. Let the business take a life of its own.  As the founder, take a step back and support, be flexible and allow it to grow at its own pace and originality. Business Action Plan Let me define what I mean by an action plan. Its true that creating a website is an action which takes, presumably, many hours and then, after that, youll need constant updates and content. Or spending time designing a catchy logo and name. Dont get me wrong, all important aspects of a business. However, thats not what I mean by action here. I call these behind the screen actions. The actions that get people in the door, is the personal one-on-one conversations to get others on board with your business. I wish it was that simple, to promote behind the screen and wed all have booming business. Perhaps some even will work that way. But for the majority, what is usually called sales (which is different then marketing) is vital to get the customers in the door.  You dont only need customers buy-in, but also colleagues so they can lead customers to your business as well.  Here are some ideas on what I mean by action: Talking to other businesses that could partner and refer more business to you Attend a meeting with a local professional organization to broaden your network Believing in your business first, really believing Arrange speaking engagements where you can  spread your idea One-on-one conversations with people who need your product Dont underestimate the value of each individual carrying your message. I recommend reading the book, The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. He talks about how the little stuff matters. One can reach the masses one person at a time.   Also, keep in mind that there are personality types that are natural networkers, which is like glue for getting others on board. They can spread information like wild fire. Its just what they do. The key here is to have your story straight first. One-on-ones only work if you believe in what youre doing first. My encouragement to all who are brave enough to risk the market themselves, I say get out from behind the screen and meet people eye to eye! Good luck! Was Speedy Gonzalez a multi-tasker - When I Grow Up

Was Speedy Gonzalez a multi-tasker - When I Grow Up When I was a little girl in elementary school, I was a rusher. No, Rolling Hills did not give out ribbons for First Person to Finish Their Macaroni Collage. Yet there I was, time in, time out, rushing my macaroni collage so I could be the first one done. Did I think it made me look smart? Maybe someone told me so, but when macaroni collages turned into tests, I would often make careless errors because I was rushing. Now Im a woman who has recently been told that I use only 15% of my personality to pay attention to detail (shown by test results from the Insight Institute). I shouldnt have been shocked, but I was. Im someone who is very organized, focused, and so I thought detail oriented. But the rest of the test was dead on, so I started paying a bit more attention I started noticing how I would only pay attention to detail in the fact that I would know I needed to double-check an important email before sending. But even when I make a mental note to slow down and look it over carefully before sending it out, I physically could not do it. My eyes would scan and look for important words, see if anything was missing, and then have to click send. When I went through the blogs I wanted to read, I realized that it was rare to read a whole sentence. My mind was already wondering how long it will take to get to the bottom, almost like it was saying, Hurry up! Im sure theres something more to read on the next blog! So now Ive come to the conclusion that in order to fulfill my goal of being a mono-uni-tasker, I have to fully be present in each moment. Not thinking ahead of what else I need/want to do, not thinking back of what was done and how it went. But focusing on what Im doing, breathing it in, digesting it, and not even thinking about anything else. Theres more to this mono-uni-tasker challenge than I thought. Ive been doing pretty good with one thing at a time until its done, but how do you shut out the voices in your head? Do you have a way of calming your mind? If you do, please share it in the Comments section!

Communications Coach 3 Things To Do Before an Interview - Jobscan Blog

Communications Coach 3 Things To Do Before an Interview - Jobscan BlogPosted on March 19, 2018January 28, 2019 by Rachel Beohm If youre in the job market, chances are youve come across a multitude of articles on the importance of making a positive first impression while networking or in a job interview. And for good reason You send a message about yur competence and likeability long before you open your mouth. Therefore, youre supposed to dress professionally, avoid falling asleep in the waiting area, be nice, offer a firm handshake, smile, keep your arms uncrossed, and the list goes on and on.Theres nothing wrong with these tips. In fact, theyre great (if perhaps somewhat obvious). But if you constantly run through a mental list of dos and donts and worry about how you come across, you will shoot yourself in the foot. So stop worrying about getting every detail right and instead do something much mora proactive and usefulPrepare.Prepare yourself, your mind and body, not just your cl othing or your resume or your answers to possible interview questions. Your ability to make a great first impression starts long before the day of your interview. Get ready in advance and the first impression will take care of itself. Here are three things to do before an interview or networking event in order to make a great first impression1.) PracticeThat long list of dos and donts for making a good impression? Theyre all valid. But as with any test, cramming rarely works. If you dont want to cross your arms at a networking event (good tip), start practicing in everyday conversation. If you want to avoid slouching during your interview (definitely), start sitting up straight at your current job. If you want to smile and make eye contact with your interviewer (yup definitely want that), start smiling and making eye contact whenever youre interacting with people. All those things you want to do to make a good impression need to be second nature. Its a lot easier to be your usual sel f than to try out a bunch of new behaviors in a stressful situation. So change your usual. In addition, its awfully hard to think clearly when your brainpower is consumed with trying to look good. When making a good first impression has become a habit, you have more processing power for the conversation.2.) Decide how you want to berather than what you want to do or say. When youve got an interview or networking event coming up, choose a few words (no more than three) to describe how you want to be. It could be anything confident, dedicated, caring, professional, creative, smart, funny, passionate, bold, thoughtful, experienced, driven, quirky, friendly, decisive, hard-working You choose. For one minute, imagine how it looks and feels to be that way. Keep your word(s) in mind and your speech and behavior will naturally align. Often, we get hung up on what we should say. We figure out a script in our heads for answering questions and demonstrating our capabilities. But as you may hav e noticed, life rarely follows the script. People surprise us. Then we either stubbornly stick to the script we prepared or fumble for words as we try to recover. Neither of those makes a very good impression Certainly, its a good idea to be prepared for possible interview questions and have an idea of what you want to say. Do that. But instead of relying on having all the right answers, rely on yourself. Be grounded in who you are and what you bring to the table. Even if you dont get all the answers quite right, if youre crystal clear on who you are and how you want to be, you will come across that way. 3.) Release tensionDo this daily as you prepare to meet people at job fairs or networking events or in interviews. But also make a conscious choice and effort to do it before and during the event itself. Breathe deeply and let go of unnecessary tension. You dont want to be so relaxed that youre slouching or come across as nonchalant. Stay alert. Yet releasing tension through breathi ng brings many benefits You will look more comfortable and confident. You will feel more comfortable and confident. Youll avoid nervous tics like bouncing knees or twiddling thumbs. Youll be able to think more clearly and quickly. First impressions are important. Yet worrying about it will backfire for two reasons First, worrying shows up in your nonverbal communication, and that makes a bad impression Second, worrying gets you stuck in your head, so you cant be present and fully show up.Want to make a good first impression? Stop trying. Instead, prepare yourself ahead of time and then trust that you can do it. How to Foster Employee Loyalty - Spark Hire

How to Foster Employee Loyalty - Spark HireEmployee loyalty makes a huge difference in your companys overall success. When your gruppe members feel loyal to your organization, theyre more productive, they treat customers better, and they create a positive working environment for everyone. Managers play a direct role in how loyal employees feel to that business. Here are some ways to ensure that your staff members develop a connection to your companyGive them honest, updated information about whats going onWhether its big stuff, like a merger or a sale, or smaller things, like changes being made to the cafeteria, when your employees are kept in the loop, they know that they matter and are respected. In turn, this helps them to feel happier and more loyal to your business. When team members are constantly wondering about whats really going on within the company, they feel highly disconnected, making it easy for them to turn on your business should another opportunity present itself.Val ue employees ideasWant your team members to be loyal? Start treating them like equals and not just minions or cogs in the wheel. Listen to their ideas and suggestions, offer praise when its earned, and work to build camaraderie within the office. When people feel as though theyre truly part of a bigger group, theyre more likely to want to stick with that team.Allow people to advance within the organizationMany businesses actually encourage talented people to go elsewhere and dont even realize it, because they fail to present growth opportunities within that organization. If an individual feels like theyll never get more responsibility or money unless they leave your company, theyll probably be on a continuous hunt for other opportunities. However, when you make it possible to grow and develop within your business, you eliminate the need to look elsewhere.Find out what matters to your teamFor some people, salary is the most important aspect of a job. For others, its about a flexible schedule or vacation time or office perks (free coffee, for example). In order to foster employee loyalty, find out exactly what matters to your team members, then do your best to offer this to them. When your employees feel like their needs are being met, theyll remain loyal to your business. How do you promote loyalty among your staff? Let us know in the commentsImage AndreyPopov/BigStock.com
